Happy Mother’s Day fellow travelers
Happy Mother’s Day fellow travelers…
You might have noticed that I haven’t been posting for the last few weeks. I haven’t been traveling. Or really even been thinking about traveling. I’ve been handling more important things here at home.
My mother passed away just a few weeks ago at the age of 70. As an only child, I had a lot on my plate. That’s the short version of the story.
The longer version is a little more complicated. My mother fought Multiple Sclerosis for over 30 years. Since she had been in a nursing home for 25 of those years, my memories of her as college mathematics professor and single mother during my early childhood had faded a lot. She was one smart cookie and I was lucky to inherit some of that from her. That passion for numbers led to my first career as a finance geek.
When I was 12, I had an opportunity to travel to Europe with a school group for 3 weeks. My mom taught summer school in order to pay for those travels. Even though it wasn’t required for school, she thought it was important and made sure I was able to go on that trip. Looking back, I truly think that was the beginning of my long love affair with travel.
Thanks, Mom. I love you too.
