Traveling Traditions

Our family has developed a few traveling traditions over the years. Earlier this week, Hubby and I visited Chicago with Junior. We left his brothers at home with family and friends. He finished 8th grade and is headed to high school next year. So we let him pick anywhere in the US to visit with just us for a long weekend.  We throw out some destinations and their highlights and see what floats to the top. Our goal is 3 full days of exploration not including the travel days.

Junior and Hubby on the Magnificent Mile…who’s taller??

I booked the flights and hotel and then we work together on an itinerary. We like city tours, but prefer to be on a bike, segway or kayak. No offense to people that enjoy the hop on hop off bus, but that is not our cup of tea. The SkyDeck at the Willis Tower was high on the list too.

With growing boys, sometimes the trips are all about food. Deep dish Chicago pizza was very important to him (and his stomach), as was Garrett’s popcorn. Our littlest traveler, Bo, finished elementary school last year, and we think he chose San Francisco based on fish and chips, sourdough bread, and Ghirardelli.

Join me over the next few days as I talk about all things Chicago with a 14 year old!
